”He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity into the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV).

God sees you from beginning to eternity. Scripture tells us that Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived! Honestly? Just the thought of being given the title of wisest man to ever live is too much for me to grasp. Solomon, when asked by the Lord what he desired, asked for wisdom instead of silver and gold or riches untold. Fortunately for us, Solomon was moved by the Spirit of God to share his wisdom in the book of Ecclesiastes.

How beautiful are the words penned in today’s verse. God made everything beautiful in its time. Go ahead and insert your name right here. You are made beautiful, not just in any time, but in God’s time. Incredible to ponder, right? Time can only be measured by God Himself! But look at the verse again. God placed eternity in our hearts. Inconceivable? Bear with me for a second. I can’t control time. I can’t own time. Yet, God placed eternity in my heart? Yes. Did I get your attention? Are you holding on to your seat? While we sit here trying to figure it all out, eternity is already in our hearts. Like the verse says, we can’t grasp it or control it, but it’s there. Let’s just try to grasp how having eternity in our hearts can help us battle cancer today.

By placing eternity in our hearts, God has given us two powerful truths for us to use against the burdens of cancer.

Powerful Truth #1: Our daily struggle with cancer, and even life itself, is really small compared to eternity! Looking at eternity—life everlasting—you can begin to see how small your season of cancer is, compared to eternity with our heavenly Father. You are part of something much bigger than cancer. You are part of God’s ability to hold on to you, not just today or next week or next year. God is holding on to you for eternity.

Powerful Truth #2: By placing eternity in our hearts, God has given us a hunger not just for eternity, but for an eternity with Him! After all, Jesus has gone to prepare a place for you (see John 14:3). This is a place with no treatments, no scans, no side effects, and no fatigue. It’s heaven.

Push back the thoughts that your cancer is here to stay. It’s not, but you are. Jesus has not just gone to prepare a place for you. He has also promised to come and take you to be with Him for eternity.

So, begin each morning by opening your eyes and letting yourself be flooded with eternity. Various colors. Shapes. Smells. Now, let another day’s journey begin. A new day of beauty the Creator has given you. Remember, your heart holds a small part of eternity, which can fill you with beauty, splendor, and newness.

Pray: Heavenly Father, we thank You for another day’s journey on this Earth. You created it for our enjoyment. Let our fear of cancer be washed away by our sense of awe, graciously thanking You for the blessings You have given us. Amen.

Your Turn:
Take time to listen to “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me, and let it lift your thoughts to what God has prepared for you in eternity.
