Written by Ashley Taylor

My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music (Psalm 57:7 NIV).

Music is a gift from God that makes my heart smile. As a child, I learned to play the piano and even to create a few of my own songs. I love to sing, but the sounds that come out probably make others want to run in the opposite direction. However, my friend, Toni, once told me that God doesn’t care what my voice sounds like; He just wants to hear it. So, I sing. Music is motivating, joyous, and healing for me. Most of all, it brings me closer to God.

From my finding the lump, to the biopsy, and then the diagnosis of my breast cancer, I knew God had my back. However, I had not processed everything or completely turned my cancer over to Him. When first diagnosed, I was busy—busy with caring for my family, leading a high school girls’ Bible study, helping with a human trafficking program at my church.… No time for tears, anger, or fear! Then, life slowed down a bit, and the full force of my cancer reality hit.

It was in the quiet moments of reading my devotions and listening to praise music that God came to me. All I needed to do was be still and listen. One of the songs that I played a lot and has become one of my favorites is “Trust in You” by Lauren Daigle. My Heavenly Father wanted me to trust Him to carry this burden for me, wholly and completely. He would provide the strength and comfort that I needed for this journey.

I was able to let the tears flow and work through my emotions. I could walk this journey, no matter what was thrown my way, with God holding my hand. “My heart, O God, is steadfast …” (Psalm 57:7). My full trust was in God to carry me. As I listen to Lauren Daigle’s song, I still love to sing out with her the words, “As I cry out to You, I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You.”

Pray: Heavenly Father, let us put our complete trust in You and know that You are always with us. Hear us sing words of praise and thanksgiving to You for Your great love for us. Amen.

Your Turn: Listen to the song, “Trust in You” by Lauren Daigle. What kind of impact does it have on you?
