“However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NIV).
No matter what your age, you have seen the beauty of the Lord through the lens of your wonderfully complex yet functional eyes. Our eyes’ capabilities are keener and sharper than any lens created by man—a gift given to us to see the beauty of God’s creation. The sharpness of the human eye is needed for the oncologist and radiologist to see the cancer, too!
Behold! As the sun rises in the east at its appointed time, your eyes gaze into the sky, taking in all the colors of another morning of life prepared by your loving Savior. Suddenly, you hear the new dawn announced by an orchestra of birds sharing their beautiful symphony right outside your window. A flood of emotion washes away the residual of appointments, multiple tests, medications to be taken, and consultations, pulling your mind away from the question of how to eradicate the cancer in your body or that of your loved one. Your mind for the briefest of moments bows to the Creator of the Universe. Think of it! God prepared all these wonders for you to see—beyond the cancer.
If these are the wonders God has given us to see, can we even fathom the wonders of God that we cannot see? Today’s verse tells us that God has prepared for you more than you can even imagine—and I can imagine a lot! Peace, strength, wholeness, clarity, certainty, and joy all wrapped up in awe!
Yes! We are in awe of God’s love for us. Remember, it is because of His love for us that He gave His only begotten Son the assignment to die for us. Jesus’ death restored our relationship with the Father. Jesus left His heavenly home to accomplish the mission of salvation for us. But it was not simply His love for you that moved God to prepare His wonders for you. Look again at today’s verse. For whom has God prepared these mysteries? For those who love Him. Open yourself to receive all the wonders God has prepared for you, both seen and especially those that are unseen. Open your heart to love Him back.
“Why do you love me so much?” It is now, in our cancer struggle, that our heavenly Father is asking us to do the same. Use your battle with cancer to reach out to others, sharing with all who will listen, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow!” My cancer battle is my platform to shout to the world that His plan for me is to lift up the name of Jesus! Weeping endures for a night, but joy will come in the morning!
Pray: God, on cancer’s good days and bad days, teach me to seek all the wonders You have prepared for me, and to hold them close to my heart. Amen.
Your Turn: Breathe deeply. First, absorb the abundant love Christ has for you. Breathe that in for a moment. Now, breathe out the reality of your love for Christ. Reflect on the wonders this love has brought into your life.
