Cancer Story: Dennis Rohlfing Metastatic Prostate Cancer Survivor and his wife and Caregiver Roxanne Rohlfing
When a loved one is diagnosed with cancer, there is a whirlwind of emotions leaving caregivers physically exhausted and emotionally drained. Roxanne Rohlfing shares the powerful impact of her feelings and how she took them to the Lord. An amazing woman of faith.
On the day my husband Dennis was diagnosed with prostate cancer, we began a journey that changed us forever.
I’ll never forget that conversation when I heard the word “CANCER”—-I knew we had a long haul ahead of us. That was in 2001. Dennis had radioactive seeds implanted and all was good until 2009 when it returned and we traveled to New York City for focal cryotherapy. Then in 2011 the cancer returned again, this time in his bones and he continues therapy for this.
Each time I called out to the Lord in fear, disbelief, anger, sorrow and eventually thanksgiving. “Be Still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10.
When I finally relinquished all illusions of control and depended on God for my strength, my burden was lighter.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
