Meet our Onco Heroes Bible Study Facilitator: Marilyn L. Weitzel R.N., Ph.D.

As a Nurse with over 54 years of experience, Marilyn Weitzel has joined Cancer Companions as a Bible Study Facilitator in our brand new Onco Heroes Bible Study specifically for Oncology Workers and Volunteers.

Everyone has bad cancer days, this also applies to those that work with cancer patients and caregivers. Marilyn shares “you can’t pour from an empty cup and caregivers often give and give until they experience what is known as a burn-out or compassion fatigue.” Her goal for this bible study group is to help caregivers refresh their sense of caring and help remind others our strength ultimately comes from God. We often get so caught up in caring that we forget to “cast our cares on Him for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5: 5-7).

Marilyn’s passion for sharing the word of God with others is contagious and uplifting, and she has a unique gift of sharing her experiences to help shed light on this sometimes difficult and tiring role as an Oncology Worker and/or Volunteer.  She wants to remind volunteers they are not alone. “God promised to never leave or forsake us.  He promised to comfort us and strengthen us to do His work.  Caring and compassion is what God does through us.  It is His love that flows through us to our patients.”

Participants can expect to engage in conversation with others sharing the same concerns and difficulties while following along with the Seeing God in Your Cancer Journey guide that shares short readings and scripture that speak to the struggles of cancer.

The Onco Heroes Bible study meets the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesdays at 6:00 PM Central Time via Zoom and is open to anyone working with people struggling with cancer. Participants can join anytime and materials are available at no cost. Come listen to others share their experiences in the field and see how God will use each participant to provide wisdom, comfort and healing. To register for the Onco-Worker Bible Study click here.
